Vedauwoo, WY
When a friend invites you to camp among weird, ancient rock formations in Wyoming, where there are beaver ponds, which may be filled with brook trout, you probably do what we did: set fire to your list of weekend chores, load up the van, and get the fuck to Vedauwoo. Many of the ponds near the road were in bad shape, but brook trout are resilient, they thrive in tiny winding meadow streams and remote ponds. All you have to do is hike a bit and they'll be there: small and jeweled and not shy about taking dries.
